Planning projects for a new issue of a magazine was always lots of fun and very exciting. The above issue of Handmade Magazine was unique because most of the projects had an Asian flair whether they were clothing or household items. In addition to the kimono, blouse, pants and futon shown on the cover, I also designed a collapsible, hand painted Japanese lantern. The lantern itself was made out of rice paper with ribs of resiliant piano wire. I was amazed at its ability to survive for years.
